Mercury Rising: Southland To Heat Up Next Week
Warming starts this weekend, with temperatures rising higher starting Monday.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Friday ahead of some scorching temperatures for the following week.
Forecasters said to expect a prolonged period of very warm temperatures across the Southland. Sunday is expected to bring triple-digit heat across the Antelope Valley. Peak heat is expected to last from Monday to Wednesday as the valleys will see temperatures in the low 90s to highs in the 100s. The lower mountain areas can expect much of the same.
The temperatures will bring elevated fire dangers to the mountain areas this weekend, with widespread single-digit humidity.
The scorching temperatures will be the result of a strong upper level high pressure system over the central part of the country. The system will build westward over the next few days, giving way to the potential for a slight chance of evening thunderstorms across the mountains.
