Short Foot Pursuit Results In One Arrest

Early morning chase of parolee reported near Sierra Madre.

Police arrested a man Tuesday after leading officers on a brief foot pursuit.

Authorities arrested 44-year-old Joel Carpenter on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer.

Police attempted to make contact with Carpenter before 10 a.m. in the 200 block of West Sierra Madre Avenue. Carpenter is reportedly a parolee and officers approached to talk with him. He then fled from police, who were following right behind him, according to Sergeant Matt Egan.

Carpenter was caught a short distance later near the intersection of Virginia and Pennsylvania avenues. Officers remained a while after and retraced the path of the pursuit to locate something that may have been in Carpenter's possession. According to scanner reports, a resident in the area reportedly found what was described at the time as a meth pipe and possibly some drugs near the residence.

Carpenter is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
