Police Blotter: Distraction Burglary, Thefts and an Injury Crash

Local police activity for the week of May 14 to May 20.

The following information was provided by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, May 14. Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Sgt. Matt Egan on duty.

  • 8:15 a.m. - Police investigated a theft report in the 1000 block of East Route 66.
  • 10:41 a.m. - Authorities investigated a report of on North Barranca at Bennett avenues and arrested Minor Maradiaga, 32, on suspicion of burglary. Maradiaga was observed stealing from a car in the Citrus College parking lot earlier that morning. Maradiaga was eventually transferred to the Inmate Reception Center.
  • 10:53 a.m. - Officers investigated a residential burglary report in the 100 block of South California Avenue. Access was made by breaking through a rear window. It was a late report taken by officers.
  • 7:18 p.m. - Police were called to the 1100 block of East Essex Street to a family disturbance. Officers arrested Jaki Arteaga, 21, on an outstanding warrant. Arteaga was issued a citation.
  • 9:40 p.m. - Officers investigated a theft report in the 500 block of North Yucca Ridge.


Tuesday, May 15. Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • 9:42 a.m. - Police were called about a in the 200 block of South Barranca Avenue at a house for sale. A woman alleged a Hispanic man and woman stole jewelry from the home in a distraction burglary.
  • 9:58 a.m. - Officers investigated a vandalism report in the 900 block of South Grand Avenue. An employee of one of the gas stations at the location made a late report of an incident on Sunday when a customer drove off with the gas pump still attached to their vehicle, police said.
  • 12:31 p.m. - A theft report was investigated in the 800 block of South Grand Avenue. A male suspect in his 20s, with a tattoo resembling an eyeball on his neck, reportedly stole three routers from the location.
  • 2:52 p.m. - Authorities conducted a traffic stop on East Ghent Street at Galanto Avenue and arrested the driver on an outstanding warrant involving driving on a suspended license. The driver was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
  • 8:25 p.m. - Police investigated a vehicle burglary report in the 800 block of South Grand Avenue.


Wednesday, May 16. Lt. Jamie Caldwell on duty.

  • 6:48 a.m. - Officers conducted a traffic stop on South Sunflower at the 210 freeway and arrested the driver on two outstanding warrants. The driver was eventually cited and released.
  • 7:01 a.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of North Glendora Avenue and arrested Maria Huerta, 20, on suspicion of driving without a license, failure to provide a license to officers and failure to stop at a crosswalk. Huerta was cited and released.
  • 2:53 p.m. - Authorities took a graffiti report at the , 635 South Elwood Avenue. Graffiti was reportedly made on a stairwell to the location.
  • 9:30 p.m. - Police arrived to the 400 block of West Gladstone on a theft report. The theft of a bicycle occurred some time Wednesday.


Thursday, May 17. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Sgt. Mike Randazzo on duty.

  • 6:04 a.m. - Officers conducted a pedestrian check at , 655 South Grand Avenue and arrested John Williams, 53, on suspicion of trespassing and possessing marijuana. Williams was cited and released.
  • 7:19 a.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of East Route 66 and arrested the driver on an outstanding traffic related warrant. The driver was eventually issued a citation.
  • 11:26 a.m. - Authorities investigated a vandalism report in the 1600 block of South Barranca Avenue.
  • 4:14 p.m. - Employees at , 130 South Grand Avenue, allegedly detained two teen girls on suspicion of theft. The girls were issued a citation.
  • 12:59 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of East Route 66 and arrested Brandon Kemp, 24, on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance. Kemp was eventually issued a citation.
  • 6:30 p.m. - Employees reported a second theft in progress at CVS on Grand Avenue. A man with a black back pack allegedly concealed items in a backpack, according to scanner reports. Police arrived and arrested Curtis Damon, 26, on suspicion of theft. Damon was issued a citation.
  • 10:35 p.m. - An employee of the gas station, 540 West Route 66, called authorities to help with a defrauding report. According to scanner reports, a customer paid $6 for gas, but the employee accidentally credited $60 to the pump being used. The customer continued to pump more gasoline even while the employee requested he stop. The customer then drove off, but not before the employee took down the license plate number of the car. Officers later located the driver and escorted him back to the Mobil station to work out the bill with the employee.


Friday, May 18. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Sgt. Mike Randazzo on duty.

  • 3:28 a.m. - Police received a theft report from employees of Walmart, 1950 East Auto Centre Drive, and arrested Danny Trujillo, 35, on suspicion of theft. Trujillo was eventually issued a citation and released.
  • 5:48 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop on West Carter Drive at Grand Avenue and arrested the driver on an outstanding warrant. The driver was eventually issued a citation and released.
  • 7:18 p.m. - Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Glendora Avenue and arrested Joseph Wilcox, 36, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Wilcox was cited and released.
  • 8:07 p.m. - Police were informed of a fight in the area near Glendora Avenue and Gladstone Street. The caller alleged the fight was between the occupants of two automobiles. The occupants sped off Nortbound on Grand Avenue, according to scanner reports. Officers caught up both cars on West Route 66 near Grand Avenue. According to Sgt. Randazzo, none of thosee involved would admit to fighting and no one reported injuries, so officers could not substantiate a crime. Arrested was Jose Hernandez, 21, on suspicion of driving without a license, failing to provide proof of insurance and filing to provide a license to officers. Hernandez was eventually cited and released.
  • 9:08 p.m. - Authorities conduced a traffic stop on North Lorraine Avenue at Route 66 and arrested Brian Heffron, 45, on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level. Heffron was issued a citation.


Saturday, May 19. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Sgt. Mike Randazzo on duty.

  • 8:09 a.m. - Authorities investigated a theft report in the 200 block of West Linfield Street.
  • 4:10 p.m. - California High Patrol dispatchers alerted Glendora Police about an on South Lone Hill Avenue at Kenoma Street. Two young children were among occupants of a red minivan that was rear ended by a black Hummer. At least one adult was transported to a local hospital.
  • 6:14 p.m. - Authorities conducted a traffic stop on South Grand at Dawson avenues and arrested Jesus Aberto, 29, on suspicion of driving without a license, failing to provide proof of insurance and failing to provide an ID to officers. Aburto was eventually cited and released.
  • 7:49 p.m. - Police responded to the 700 block of East Mauna Loa Avenue on a fight call. A resident in the area heard screaming. Once officers arrived, three subjects fled the area, but were eventually caught. One subject tried to hide from officers in some nearby bushes. That subject was 18-year-old Robert Wurst, from Glendora. Wurst was booked on suspicion of obstructing a police officer and was eventually cited and released.
  • 10:40 p.m. - Officers patrolling the Oak Tree Festival at St. Dorothy Church, 215 South Valley Center Avenue, were allerted to several amongst teenagers. Police also witnessed a reported fight between carinval workers and some teens.
  • 11:54 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of South Grand Avenue and arrested Monica Wariatch and Matthew Eugene Vasquez, both 24. Wariatch was booked on suspicion of obstructing a police officer, while Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level. Both subjects were cited and released.


Sunday, May 20. Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • 6:22 a.m. - A vandalism report was taken on South Sunflower Avenue at Arrow Highway.
  • 11:24 a.m. - Officials at the Oak Tree Festival, 215 South Valley Center Avenue, reported the theft of a keg of beer. Police took a report of the incident.
  • 1:17 p.m. - A battery report was made in the 600 block of East Bridwell Street.
  • 3:53 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop on South Bonnie Cove Avenue at West Juanita Street and arrested Aaron Ceravolo, 20, on an outstanding warrant. Ceravolo was eventually transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.
  • 7:04 p.m. - A vehicle burglary report was taken in the 1100 block of South Valley Center Avenue.
