Hundreds Without Power After Pole Catches Fire

Early evening pole fire causes widespread outage, Edison crew were still working to restore power to homes early Tuesday morning.

Crews are working to restore power to homes after a power pole caught fire Monday evening.

The fire happened around 6:50 p.m. on Country Club Road and Foothill Blvd. where a telephone pole ignited, according to Lt. Joe Ward of Glendora Police.

According to Southern California Edison's outage map, there were 386 customers without power around midnight Tuesday.

Glendora PD and LA County fire responded, but had to wait for Southern California Edison to assist with extinguishing the fire to handle the technical end of the operation. The fire destroyed the pole and knocked out power north of Foothill Blvd. and east of Lone Hill Avenue on a residential track, Ward said.

Two intersections were also blacked out as a result of the outage, one at Compromise Line Road and Route 66, the other at Amelia Avenue and Duell Street. Power south of Foothill Boulevard was also out, Ward said.

Once Edison arrived and helped extinguish the fire, crews restored power to all homes south of Country Club Drive, but power north of said street may not be restored until the morning. Crews still need to replace the burned pole, Ward said.

UPDATE: Edison reports that about 68 residents are now left without power as of 7:20 a.m. Crews are replacing the burned power pole.
