Glendora Police Arrest One for Allegedly Shining Laser at Police Helicopter
Late afternoon incident also yielded a drug arrest for the driver of the vehicle.
Glendora Police arrested the passenger of a gold-colored Chevy Sedan after he allegedly shined a green laser at a passing police helicopter Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Barranca Avenue near Route 66, police said. The airship, which is contracted by Azusa Police, alerted Glendora PD about the vehicle, which was stopped at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Route 66, according to Sgt. Matt Williams of the Glendora PD.
The passenger of the vehicle reportedly shined the high-powered laser at the airship three times, police said.
Officers located the vehicle and arrested Jerrod Ferren, 31, of Glendora, on suspicion of discharging a laser at an aircraft. Ferren is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. Officers also arrested the driver, William Dixon, 26, of Los Angeles, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and for possession of a controlled substance. Officers later found a small amount of methamphetamine inside the vehicle. Dixon is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear at West Covina Superior Court Wednesday, Williams said.
