Cab Driver Assaulted in Glendora

Driver treated at the scene after a woman sprays him with mace.

A young woman is behind bars after she was accused of assaulting a cab driver with mace earlier Thursday.

arrested Kayla St. Onge, 22, from Glendora, and booked her on suspicion of assault and robbery. Bail is set at $100,000.

Authorities received a call around 8:40 a.m. from the cab company, the name of which was not disclosed, reporting that one of their drivers had been maced by a customer near the Elwood Family Apartments, 635 South Elwood Avenue. St. Onge reportedly refused to pay the fare, and when the driver said he would call the police, she sprayed him and fled, said Lt. Rob Lamborghini.

Police were able to identify the suspect as that of St. Onge and arrived to the apartment complex, eventually taking the woman into custody. How officers identified St. Onge is unknown.

It is unknown why the woman refused to pay the fare or exactly where the ride originated from, but police said the cab ride originated near where the incident occurred, to St. Onge's destination and back again.

Police also arrested Blake Parra, 21, on suspicion of obstructing an officer. Parra was not directly related in the macing incident.

The cab driver did not require hospitalization.

"As far as I know he was not taken to a hospital. He was just treated at the scene," Lamborghini said.

It was not disclosed when St. Onge would appear in court, but could be as soon as tomorrow, Lamborghini said.
