Authorities Nab Theft Suspects at Gunpoint

Duo accused of stealing cell phone from area business.

arrested two theft suspects Thursday after the two attempted to flee the business' employees, but officers were close by waiting for them.

Arrested were Kevaughn Smith and Cassie Hough, both 19, on suspicion of receiving known stolen property. Both subjects are being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The burglary took place some time around 2 p.m. at , 1357 East Gladstone Street. The suspects were being watched by employees of 24-Hour Fitness, allegedly stealing a cell phone from the location.

Officers arrived and waited for the suspects to exit.

The suspects left the business when employees attempted to stop them, but the duo ran away southbound towards . Officers moved to close in on the suspects, who entered a White Honda Acura, said Sergeant Matt Egan. Officers detained the theft suspects at gunpoint near Chili's and eventually arrested the two.

According to the Glendora Police Live Calls web page, cell phone thefts occur often at 24-Hour Fitness, but it was not immediately known if one, or both suspects are linked to any past thefts.

"The investigation is still ongoing," Egan said.
