Police Search Glendora Backyard in Connection to Woman's 1978 Disappearance

Authorities are digging up the backyard of a Glendora home hoping to find evidence in the 35-year-old cold case of Wendy Byron.

Sheriff's deputies dug holes in the backyard of a home in Glendora today, seeking evidence in the disappearance of a 24-year-old woman in 1978.

Deputies came to the house in the 500 block of Essex Street at 8 a.m. to assist the Glendora Police Department in the investigation of the disappearance of Wendy Byron, said Deputy Kim Manatt.

Byron, a Glendora resident, went missing August 26, 1978. Her car was found at Ontario Airport. Authorities at the time suspected foul play.

According to county documents, Byron and her husband once lived at the home on Essex Street.

Deputies are scheduled to return to the house at 7 a.m. Thursday, joined by the Special Operations Team from the coroner's office, Manatt said.

"We haven't found anything, but we are looking for evidence,'' sheriff's Lt. Holly Francisco told KCAL9. The present owners of the home are not involved with the case, Francisco told KCAL9.
