Royal Oak Teacher Indicted For Child Exploitation Offenses

John David Boyle of Glendora was arrested last month when agents said he intended to watch child porn and engage in sexual activity with an undercover agent in his classroom.

A Royal Oak Middle School teacher arrested in June following an undercover sting in his classroom was indicted Tuesday for child exploitation offenses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

John David Boyle, 49, of Glendora has been charged in a six-count indictment, which includes enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity over the Internet, which allegedly led to the molestation of a 14-year-old boy. Boyle, who is being detained until his trial based on Court finding that he is a danger to the community, has also been charged with advertisement, distribution and receipt of child pornography.

According to the affidavit, Boyle, a 13-year teacher at Royal Oak, began communicating with an undercover agent in an Internet chat room and invited him to meet in his classroom to view and trade child pornography.

Boyle set up an in-person meeting with the ICE/Homeland Security Investigations agent to meet in his classroom on a Sunday to engage in sexual activity while watching porn. According to the indictment, Boyle believed the agent shared his sexual interest in young boys.

When the agent appeared for the meeting, he gave Boyle a thumb drive containing child pornography. Agents confronted Boyle during the meeting, and after further investigation into Boyle’s computer systems, found evidence of child exploitation offenses. Investigators also found text messages that alluded to a previous sexual encounter with a minor.

Agents were able to identify a 14-year-old molestation victim of Boyle’s, Count One in the indictment.

Boyle is due in court on Tuesday, July 11 for a post-indictment arraignment. If convicted of the charges, Boyle faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
