Cal Poly Ranked in Top 100 for Best Value

Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine recently released its annual rankings for colleges and universities that offer academic excellence at an affordable price.

Cal Poly Pomona has again made the list of the 100 public colleges or universities with one of the best values in higher education.

The Temple Avenue campus ranked 89th in Kiplinger's Personal Financemagazine's annual rankings of the top 100 colleges and universities that offer academic excellence at an affordable price. Cal Poly Pomona ranked 92nd on last year's list.

Cal Poly Pomona was recognized for its low average student debt, four-year graduation rate, and the amount of financial aid available to students, according to a story on Cal Poly's polycentric website.

The total cost to attend Cal Poly Pomona per year, which includes tuition, fees, room and board, and books, is $19,738 for in-state students and $30,898 for out-of-state, according to a report on Kiplinger's. 

The average student debt at graduation is $16,815.  The four-year graduation rate is 13 percent.  Fifty-nine percent of financial aid need is met, with the average need-based aid at $9,646.

Total enrollment is 19,399.

Besides Cal Poly, other Cal State University campuses that made the top 100 include Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (40), San Diego State (77), and Cal State Long Beach (82).

Cal Poly Pomona President Michael Ortiz lauded the hard work of faculty and staff.

“Even at a time when budget cuts have seriously impacted the entire university, our faculty and staff have excelled in their efforts to provide an excellent educational experience for our students,” Ortiz told polycentric. “I applaud them for constantly striving to ensure the success of our students.”
