Foundation Contributes Record Donation to Glendora Schools

FGUS delivers another record donation to the district.

The Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools, the non-profit benefit corporation serving the Glendora Unified School District, has announced a very generous donation of $445,000. The latest donation outdoes last year's gift, which totaled $438,000. Founded in 2003, the goal of the Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools is to enhance the education of Glendora's students by providing financial support for all the district's schools and to maintain and enhance academic excellence. The Foundation's donations help fund the arts, grants, scholarships, educational programs and technology. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed nearly $1.2 million to Glendora Unified. Charter Oak Certifies Students Have all Necessary Textbooks, Materials

As part of state law, the district must provide all students with adequate supplies

The Charter Oak Unified School District certified at their board of education meeting Oct. 6 that all their students in grade K-12 have sufficient books and materials for their academic journeys. Under the Instructional Materials Funding Realignment Program, Charter Oak will also receive $358,000 in State Instructional Materials Funds for the 2011-2012 school year for purchase of standards-aligned textbook or instructional materials in history/social science, mathematics, English language arts, health, foreign language, and in grades 9-12, laboratory science equipment. Excellent. The next question parents should ask is how up-to-date are the textbooks? Districts often buy out of date textbooks that have misinformation or irrelevant info. (less expensive). I'm notb suggesting that this is happening at Charter Oak but It bears well for all parents to take a look at the copyright dates and make sure the information students get is current.
