Time-Lapse Video of Gold Line Bridge

This video produced by the Gold Line Construction Authority shows the bridge's falsework construction over a period of two months.

The bridge you see stretching over the 210 freeway comprises nearly 2.5 million pounds of steel and timber, and that's just the falsework. Watch how the bridge has progressed over time by clicking the above video. The Gold Line extension to the Glendora/Azusa border is slated for completion 2015.

GLCA Aims to Keep Gold Line On Track to Claremont

With a more than $700 million funding gap, the Gold Line Construction Authority pushes to extend Measure R funds to the Azusa to Claremont segment of the project.

About $810 million of the $1.574 billion projected cost for the 23-mile light rail extension to Claremont has been allocated, although the Gold Line Construction Authority and supporters of the project are pushing Metro to extend Measure R funds for the next phase of construction. An updated expenditure plan for the Metro Gold Line extension from the Azusa/Glendora border to Claremont put its target date at 2021. “The State Legislature required the construction authorities receiving Measure R funds to prepare an expenditure plan to complete their capital projects,” said Construction Authority Board Chairman and Glendora Councilman Doug Tessitor in a press statement. “It is important to recognize that the voters approved the project to …

Gold Line Bridge Falsework Nearly Complete

Falsework for the I-210 Gold Line Bridge should be completed next week.

After Foothill Extension Construction Authority representatives met with Congressional officials and staff last week for an update on the Foothill Extension project, Chief Executive Officer of the project, Habib F. Balian announced that the falsework -- the temporary framework that provides structural support -- for the I-210 Gold Line Bridge is almost complete.  Skanska predicts the falsework will be fully up early next week.  Balian describes the progress as “a significant milestone for the project that required more than 20 full late-night closures of the eastbound I-210 Freeway over the last two months.” There will be full closures of eastbound I-210 Freeway lanes for construction of the bridge through Friday night, March 16. All lanes…

Gold Line Deals with Monrovia Appear Imminent

Gold Line officials and the city have reached agreements on several parts of a critical land deal needed for the Foothill Extension to progress.

The Gold Line Construction Authority has reached key settlements with Monrovia in the ongoing effort to buy the city's land for a critical maintenance yard project for the extension project to the Glendora/Azusa border. The deals now await approval by a judge. The Monrovia City Council will consider three resolutions Tuesday that are contingent on a judge approving several agreements between the city and GLCA. The agreements are part of the eminent domain court proceedings that the GLCA pursued after a $56 million deal between the two parties fell through. The city had to split up its original agreement with the GLCA after the state eliminated redevelopment agencies, effectively nullifying a previous agreement reached between the city's …

Gold Line Authority Lobbies to Secure Funding For Project Shortfall

With stalled progress on transportation funding at the federal level, the GLCA continues its quest to secure the remaining $600 million for the Gold Line extension.

Since returning from the nation’s capitol for the 80th Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors last week, a disappointed Doug Tessitor, chairman of the Gold Line Construction Authority, expressed frustration over what he called “a lack of action.” Tessitor, mayor of Glendora, was one of 250 city mayors across the nation selected to meet with President Barack Obama and Congress leaders to discuss the state of local government. Tessitor arrived in Washington, D.C. last Wednesday to join city leaders in urging Congress to act on a $230 billion federal transportation bill that has languished in committees for years. “Everyone makes noise about how they want to get things accomplished, but no one wants to do anything,” said Tessitor. As…

Gold Line Authority and Monrovia Put Deal on Hold Again

Monrovia and Gold Line officials continue to try to hammer out a deal before eminent domain comes into play next month.

The Monrovia City Council again delayed a decision Tuesday on a proposed deal with the Gold Line Construction Authority after GLCA authorities asked the city not to take any action, officials said. The city was poised to again consider a resolution that spells out terms it insists the GLCA had previously agreed to. But Gold Line officials have said publicly that no deal was ever reached and if the city passed the measure Tuesday, it would not have been binding upon the GLCA. Still, the GLCA asked that the city hold off on any votes regarding the land deal as the agency continues to work out a compromise, Monrovia City Manager Scott Ochoa said. "Again, looking to be a good faith negotiator and an entity that has worked diligently for the …

The following is from someone affiliated with Metro, so take it for what it's worth. He says the maintenance yard will remain in L.A., but that the trains will now park in Monrovia. Sounds like either a pending proposal, or something that's already been agreed upon behind the scenes.   more ›

Mayor's Roundtable

Mayor's Roundtable: Few Options Left For Gold Line Authority

Mayor Doug Tessitor writes that should all land negotiations with a private property owner and the City of Monrovia fail, the Gold Line Construction Authority may seize the critical property through eminent domain.

Glendora Mayor Doug Tessitor fields your community questions and answers them in a weekly column. In Glendora Patch’s Mayor’s Roundtable, you are invited in an ongoing dialogue about issues and concerns you have regarding your city. Share your ideas and voice your opinion. Have a question you'd like Mayor Tessitor to answer? E-mail hazel.lodevicotoo@patch.com This week's reader-submitted question: "The media is making a big fuss over negotiations with Monrovia and how the Gold Line may be at risk if we don't resolve something soon. Should the operation facility in Monrovia not come into fruition, is it really conceivable that the Gold Line never make it to Glendora or beyond Arcadia even? What would our next best options be, or are we …

Gold Line Authority No Longer Considering Second Parking Structure Option

While the GLCA is moving forward with its first preliminary design for the Glendora station parking structure, city officials say they have serious concerns about traffic safety.

While the city anticipates the arrival of the Gold Line in Glendora, the Gold Line Construction Authority and city staff have been taking steps to iron out potential traffic safety issues regarding the proposed parking structure. However, city officials say that the GLCA’s proposed parking structure design may feature “unmitigatable” traffic safety issues. During a May 4 public forum, the GLCA presented two proposed parking structure options adjacent to the future station at Glendora and Ada avenues. The first option, a 15-ft, two-story garage stretching from Vermont to Glendora avenues had been the GLCA’s first proposed design. After discussions with city staff and hearing their concerns on traffic safety, the GLCA rendered a second …
