This video produced by the Gold Line Construction Authority shows the bridge's falsework construction over a period of two months.
The bridge you see stretching over the 210 freeway comprises nearly 2.5 million pounds of steel and timber, and that's just the falsework. Watch how the bridge has progressed over time by clicking the above video. The Gold Line extension to the Glendora/Azusa border is slated for completion 2015.
The Expo Line will open to the public on Saturday, April 28.
The Gold Line Construction Authority has released a series of videos explaining the coming attractions for the Gold Line Foothill Extension. One Monrovia blogger thinks the money would be better spent elsewhere.
The Gold Line Construction Authority has released another video detailing the coming attractions along the Foothill Extension, but are the slick productions a wise use of taxpayer money? Monrovia Now blogger Brad Haugaard says no. "Professionally done, but I don't understand why it is a good expenditure of money to tell residents about the attractions of their own home towns, especially in an era of tight money," Haugaard wrote Tuesday. What do you think--are the videos a necessary public relations piece or could the money be better spent elsewhere? Tell us in the comments below.

A critical portion of bridge construction is completed.
As construction crews finished installing the falsework for the 1-210 Gold Line Bridge, the Gold Line Construction Authority announced the project is on track for completion this summer. The temporary structure, which crosses the eastbound lanes of the I-210 Freeway, was installed over the last several months and was built to support the bridge superstructure during concrete placement. Because the false-work was erected over an active freeway, the work required more than 20 full closures of the eastbound freeway. “Completion of false-work activity is a major milestone for the project,” said Gary Baker, Director of Construction for the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority. Construction of the false-work commenced in mid…
A judge gives the Gold Line full control of the 14 acres of Monrovia land at the heart of previous lawsuits.
The city and Gold Line Construction Authority signed an agreement that will expedite the Gold Line Foothill Extension.
The Gold Line Construction Authority announced Thursday that it has signed a deal with Monrovia to acquire land needed for a maintenance yard project that will keep the the Gold Line Foothill Extension on track. The agreement, which still needs approval from a judge overseeing eminent domain proceedings, calls for Monrovia to sell 14 acres of land along Evergreen Avenue to the GLCA for $40.6 million. "Needless to say, the terms agreed to today are an important achievement for the project," GLCA CEO Habib Balian wrote in an email. "We are appreciative of the City of Monrovia’s efforts to work with the Authority to come to terms that were mutually acceptable, and to keep the project on time and on budget." After settling with local property …

R. Ray Morford it is the city fault that they have to pay the legal fees that brought upon the GLCA because they had a agreement with the property owner. Why should other cities help pay for legal fees that they did not create Monrovia is the one that had an agreement with an owner..   more ›
Trains were led to sharing a single track on part of the line.
Gold Line passenger train service between Pasadena and Los Angeles was delayed Sunday morning because an overhead power line fell near Elysian Park. Buses were used as a bridge for much of the early morning, but by 9 a.m. trains were again running on the entire Gold Line. The power problems meant trains had to share a single track on part of the line, meaning the normal Sunday schedule of one train every 12 minutes was reduced to one train every 20 minutes. Spokeswoman Helen Ortiz Gilstrap said officials did not yet have a reason why an overhead wire fell on one of the two tracks north of Chinatown.
The settlement ends a long legal battle between local property owner George Brokate and the Gold Line Construction Authority.
The Gold Line Construction Authority announced Friday that it has settled several lawsuits through a $24 million agreement to acquire land for the coming Foothill Extension from a local property owner who had repeatedly sued the transporation agency. The deal allows the GLCA to move forward with the Foothill Extension, giving the agency control of more than 50 percent of the land it needs for a Monrovia maintenance yard project critical to the extension's progress. Local property owner George Brokate of Excalibur Property Holdings sued the city and GLCA repeatedly in an effort to prevent his land on Evergreen Avenue from being condemned for the project. The GLCA initiated eminent domain proceedings against him, but those will no longer be …
