Cinco de Mayo DUI Patrols to Begin Tonight

The countywide anti-DUI campaign will patrol for impaired drivers this weekend.

Los Angeles County law enforcement agencies will be deploying DUI saturation patrols to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers during Cinco de Mayo festivities this weekend. Initiated by the Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Task Force, the campaign will begin deploying patrols throughout the county starting Friday, May 4 at 6 p.m. through Sunday. California Highway Patrol will also deploy saturation patrols onto freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions.  With Cinco de Mayo festivities in full swing, law enforcement agencies are expecting a higher number of intoxicated drivers this weekend. UPDATE: Assemblyman Hernandez Was 'Intoxicated' When Arrested, Paper Reports

Blood test results showed that he had an 0.08 percent blood alcohol level, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Assembly Member Roger Hernandez was “legally intoxicated” according to blood test results taken when he was arrested in Northern California under suspicion of driving under the influence, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported Wednesday. Hernández, Assembly member for the 57th district and a candidate for the 48th Assembly district, which includes Glendora, had an 0.08 alcohol blood level at the moment of his arrest, which is considered legally intoxicated, according to the Tribune.   After the incident last month, the legislator told the Sacramento Bee that he hoped the evidence will “showe that he was not drunk.”  Subsequently, Hernandez apologized publicly and turned in his state issued vehicle. “I want my constituents to know that I …

Local Police Crack Down on St. Patrick’s Day Drunk Driving

The Los Angeles County Avoid the 100 will beef up DUI patrols in cities throughout the county.

St. Patrick’s Day may be a day when everyone is Irish, but local law enforcement agencies are reminding drivers that police will be on the lookout to nab drunk drivers this weekend. Los Angeles County’s Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign will be deploying additional officers on overtime for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. DUI patrol officers will be focusing on determined drunk driver hotspots during the Saint Patrick’s Day enforcement period from 6 p.m., March 16 to 6 a.m. March 18. DUI Patrols to Hit the Streets for Super Bowl Sunday

The Avoid the 100 DUI campaign urges Super Bowl fans to take part in the national designated driver program.

As football fans rally for Super Bowl Sunday this weekend, Los Angeles County enforcement will be patrolling the streets for signs of intoxicated drivers. The Avoid the 100 is again coordinating an anti-DUI campaign during the nationally televised Super Bowl this Sunday, Feb. 5 in communities across Los Angeles County. The DUI patrols will join regularly scheduled patrol officers in looking for signs of an intoxicated driver. In 2010, more than 10,000 people were killed in traffic accidents that involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or higher, according to an Avoid the 100 press statement. DUI Arrests Up Slightly From last Year During Holiday Patrols

Law enforcement agencies tout saturation patrols, checkpoints as major deterrent of traffic accidents.

The 2011-2012 Winter Holiday DUI Mobilization effort by law enforcement agencies has netted a higher number of arrests over 2010. 2,433 individuals were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, up from 2,406 the same period last year authorities said as part of Los Angeles County's Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign. The arrests were recorded between 12:01 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 through 12 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 2012. The CHP made 274 drunk driving arrests in Los Angeles County over the weekend, compared to 228 arrests the previous year. Teens Collared Following a Police Chase

Late-night drive through Glendora ends up with DUI, narcotics arrest.

A pair of teens were arrested New Year's Eve after leading Glendora police on a short chase. The pursuit began about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Lone Hill Avenue, near Petunia Street, when a vehicle nearly struck a cop car. Police gave chase, Glendora police Sgt. Marty Amaro said. The occupants were juvenlies, according to police, and their names were not released. Following a short pursuit, police collared the two at gunspoint on Cordelia Avenue, near Kenoma Street, Amaro said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and the other teen was arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession, Amaro said. Both teens were cited and eventually released to their parents. Information on arraignment dates were not available today.

Holiday DUI Arrests on the Rise

The Avoid the 100 DUI Task Force makes more arrests through the holiday weekend than last year.

Los Angeles County’s DUI crackdown netted more arrests through the Christmas weekend than last year, according to numbers by the Avoid the 100 DUI task force. From Dec. 16 to Dec. 26, 1,506 individuals were arrested during DUI patrols and checkpoints throughout the county for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2010, 1,260 DUI arrests were made during the same 10-day period. According to an Avoid the 100 press statement, several agencies have yet to report their numbers. Fatalities on California highways were also up during the Christmas holiday weekend – five more than last year. Six people were killed in state highways during the holiday weekend, although none of the deaths occurred in Los Angeles County. There was one …

Checkpoints, Patrols Net Nearly 600 Arrests, Up in 2011

Nearly 90 more arrests made over last year in a massive effort to curb DUIs, remove unlicensed drivers from the road.

Authorities report 598 arrests countywide during the Dec. 16 to Dec. 18 Avoid the 100 DUI checkpoints deployments and routine traffic enforcement, up from 510 such arrests a year ago in the same 48-hour period. Data is still being collected and the number may increase, authorities said. The checkpoint effort Glendora partnered in Friday, Dec. 16 netted nearly 20 arrests for unlicensed or suspended drivers, while netting arrests for various violations including an arrest for DUI involving drugs, said Wendy Brewer, community service officer for Glendora Police. That's right and if they think they will get the numbers lower and lower each year as our society continues to grow and grow in many ways that are not "your typical resident", they are mistaken very much.
