Students at St. Dorothy's School raise $800 for Japan.
Giving seems to be a routine thing for St. Dorothy's students. When news of the tsunami on March 11 reached the school of just over 200 students, they only needed to redirect their ongoing volunteer efforts to Japan. Fundraisers included a popsicle sale, sponsored by the 2nd grade on March 31. Next came a bake sale by the aids and staff members of St. Dorothy School, on April 5, called the Aides for Aid Bake Sale. "We were devastated when we heard about the earthquake and we wanted to do something about it," said Carol Burke, principal of St. Dorothy School. As St. Dorothy students are mandated to wear uniforms, 6th graders came up with a Buck-a-Sock and Buck-a-Shoe Day, when students can wear any kind of socks and shoes they want just …

Only a seventh grader, he was prompted to take action because of a special bond between many Glendora residents and Japan. In three days, Goddard Middle School has raised close to $4,000 for its sister school, Moka Higashi Junior High, located in central Japan. The fundraiser will continue to accept donations until next Friday, Goddard principal Elizabeth Eminhizer said. Last July, 25 Goddard Middle School students went to Japan for eight days. This November, students from Moka Higashi will visit Glendora. For twenty years, Goddard Middle School and Moka Higashi have worked in partnership to continue this “homestay” …
