Friends and family remember Glendora resident Mark Ryan.
Gail Carty told friends and family gathered at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church Monday evening that she can’t picture her childhood growing up in Glendora without Mark Ryan in it. Ryan, the longtime 64-year-old Glendora resident community members affectionately called “Mark of the Park,” always seemed to be everywhere – at Finkbiner Park, in the downtown Village Center, catching a meal at Ed's Place, or anywhere he can ride his bike to in Glendora. But most of all, people recalled how Ryan seemed to know everyone’s name. “I know if Mark were alive today, he’d know the names of each and every one of you here,” Carty said at Ryan’s memorial. And when he passed away Monday, May 7, the multitude of stories both online and throughout the community…

Popular Glendora resident Mark Ryan passed away Monday of natural causes.
If you lived in Glendora for awhile, you probably crossed paths with Mark Ryan at least once. Ryan, 64, was known by many as a well-loved and long time resident of Glendora. Ryan was called a fixture in the community, riding his bicycle around town, popping in to local businesses and getting to know nearly every person he met. But the man community members called “Mark of the Park” for his constant presence in the Glendora community died Monday of natural causes in his home. “Glendora is all he knew,” said Fritz Mensing, owner of Campus Kuts. “Mark never got to drive, he had no family of his own. This community was his family.” Mensing said he was close to Ryan for years and said Ryan, who was mentally disabled, enjoyed helping out local …

It wouldn't have been a Sock Hop without Dick Clark.
It was the early 1980s. It might have been the gym at the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, or some other sort of dark all-purpose school room with a stage, curtain and lights. But it was shadowy and seemingly vast and the mood was electric with expectation as Dick Clark swept in. There he was, "America's Oldest Teenager," looking the part, with beautiful wife Kari on his arm. Hair in a Pompadour, teeth like Chiclets -- yes a cliché, but apropos. Already decades an entertainment mogul, worth millions, but this evening he was standing off to the side, buzzing with old showbiz friends, new friends, admirers, gawkers. They danced in and out, buffing his ego, extending a hand, expressing thanks. For without him, this evening would never have …

In this week's reader question to the mayor, Tessitor responds to allegations that city concilmembers' role on the Gold Line Construction Authority Board is illegal.
"Hello Mr. Mayor, You spoke of the legalities of eminent domain in a previous column…what about the legalities of holding duel offices (serving on the city council while also on the board for the Metro Gold Line Authority)…what about conflict of interest laws? As mayor of Glendora and chair of the GLCA board, how is your case different from the city officials removed from their High-Speed Rail post?" This is obviously a very timely question. The question itself reveals the complexity and the lack of understanding of the basic issues. In order to provide a meaningful answer, we need to look at the law itself. Government Code Section 1099 says that a public official shall not simultaneously hold two public offices that “are incompatible…
