That's Entertainment

In an age when everyone needs an escape, we indulge in all forms of entertainment -- even "reality."

One thing that will always endure, no matter the economy, or wars, or disasters, is the need for entertainment.  There may not always be blockbuster numbers, but every week there will be a #1 movie or book or DVD because we want an escape... sometimes we NEED an escape, even if it's just for a couple of hours.  Or maybe it's not an escape we seek, maybe we're looking for a chance to live vicariously.

Recently, we finally had an end to the hunt for Osama bin Laden, and we were told it was done by a Navy Seals team.  As a result, I know of at least 3 people that bought Call of Duty:Black Ops, so they can play through a simulated raid.  We read books about angsty emo vampires because they simplify the romantic ideals we wish for in our lives.  We watch movies about guys that commit crimes in super charged cars because we wish we could just open up and let go (my own personal little fantasy there).

We are lucky to live in an area happy to provide us with all these choices at once. Glendora is one of the few local cities left that has a movie theater (AMC Glendora 12), book store (Barnes and Noble), and everything else entertainment store (Best Buy), all in one convenient shopping center, the Glendora Marketplace.

Whatever our choice, whether it's for escape, or feeding our dreams, or just to pass some time... being entertained is one need that all of humanity shares.  No matter our political, religious, or philosophical differences, this is one thing that can unite us.
