The Dia de los Muertos Cultural Festival is returning to Oakdale Memorial Park for the second annual year.
From 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, there will be artwork, children’s activities, food trucks and live entertainment at the cemetery, located at 1401 S. Grand Ave.
The event is free. Families are also invited to create their own altar and enter the community altar contest featuring a corridor for display and celebration. For more information visit www.dayofthedead-oakdale.com.
Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and other cultures as a way to honor the lives of loved ones who have passed away. During the holiday, families visit the cemetery and clean and decorate graves of loved ones. At the graves or homes, families will decorate altars with food such as sugar skulls or bread. People will often times wear skeleton masks or paint their faces to look like devils or skeletons.
