Harlem Wizards Rock Glendora

Glendora teachers faced off with the entertainment-based basketball team to raise money for Glendora schools.

Glendora teachers put up a good fight against the Harlem Wizards on Tuesday, but the entertaining basketball team came up on top during the Glendora Rotary Club fundraiser. The promotional game raised moeny for Glendora schools.

Spectators filled the Glendora High gymnasium to see how the team, Glendora Teachers, would fare against the theatrical stunts of the Wizards, who have entertained crowds across the nation since 1962. With dunks, passes and dribbles, the team of Glendora Teachers was the subject of the Wizards’ pranks. But the fun was all in good nature, as the main purpose of the night was to raise money for Glendora schools, which are facing major state budget cuts.

When asked about her participation, Trudy Morehart from Sutherland Elementary said, “We are all in this together and we will do anything to help out.”

The game began with 6’8” DP of the Wizards jumping against Cullen’s Tony Woo and the Wizards were off and running from there. Glendora’s Teachers knew they were in trouble as Broadway Eric Jones scored the first basket for the Wizards with a monster dunk. The Wizards first 8-10 baskets were one-handed dunks, 360-degree dunks, alley-oops, and others so creative, names have yet to be given for them.

During halftime, Rotary President Keith Hilliard presented Rob Voors and Marc Chaldu with a check for $3200 at halftime, which is what the evening was about.
