Glendora Kiwaniannes Select 27th President

Claremont resident Cathy Napoli is installed as the new president of the women's community service program.

The Glendora Kiwaniannes installed two new members for the 2011-2012 year at an installation ceremony on October 5.

Kim Bowen of Glendora and Anna Napoli of Claremont became new members of the club when Becky Summers, Second Vice President, installed and welcomed the new members at the installation ceremony where Cathy Napoli, of Glendora was named 27th President of the organization.

Announcing her theme as “Planting Seeds for Service Since 1984,” Napoli told the more than 50 guests that the club will continue to sponsor its successful fund raisers: the Antiquity Fair to be held Nov. 6 in the Sage Room of La Fetra Center, the annual Community Tea in May, and the new Leadership Academy for fifth graders in June. Napoli is the registration coordinator at Citrus College and is a founding member of the Kiwaniannes. She previously served as president of Kiwaniannes in 1988.

During the evening, Napoli thanked Kandy Nunn, outgoing president for her dedicated service as the leader of the organization for 2010-2011. Also acknowledged at the installation was the club’s award of Kiwanianne of the Year, which was presented to Pat Rasmussen, current president of the Citrus College Board of Trustees. Service pins for perfect attendance were distributed.

Napoli came to the United States from Italy when she met and married her husband, Joe.  Married for 32 years, the couple has three children. Currently, Napoli works at Claremont McKenna College and is attending the University of La Verne. She has volunteered at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Claremont, and with the American Women of the Eastern Province in Saudi Arabia.

“I have seen the Kiwanis fulfilling their mission in my city and in my children’s lives through leadership experience. This year I decided to join to help partake in this mission,” said Napoli.

Bowen is a licensed architect who has worked in Houston, Texas; Newport Beach, California and Cambridge, England. She taught architecture at Citrus College and is currently working as an Associate Broker at Coldwell Banker Millennium. She is married to Steve Bowen, D.D. S. The couple has four children. She met Dr. Bowen on the first day of the first year in college at U.C. Irvine when she was 18.  She has been involved with Glendora schools PTA, is active at the Glendora United Methodist Church, and is a member of the Citrus Valley Board of Realtors.

“I decided to join the Kiwaniannes because of the great people who are already members.  Now that my children are more independent, I have more time to devote to networking, friendship and fun,” said Bowen.

The Glendora Kiwaniannes meet the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Glendora Continental Restaurant. Originally chartered in 1984, the club enables members to effectively serve their community through various programs and activities.
