Glendora High Senior Sets Bar High

Tanner Whitworth is honored for his community service and academic achievements.

Glendora High School senior, Tanner Whitworth, 17, showed some blood and a little sweat does pay off.

The Glendora Community Coordinating Council honored Whitworth as their February Youth Award recipient for his countless hours of school, church and community volunteer work.

Whitworth reached the rank of Eagle Scout  by organizing a blood drive with the American Red Cross in October of last year collecting 83 pints of blood in honor of his friend Christopher Vega who has leukemia. According to Karen Babineau of the Glendora Community Coordinating Council, the drive was so successful, they ran out of blood donor bags.

Throughout his scouting career, Whitworth taught younger scouts camping and soccer skills. Whitworth also helped refurbish a fence at Goddard Middle School, as well as other maintenance projects on school campuses.

Whitworth is an active church member with Loraine Baptist Church and volunteered with the Glendora Public Library.

Whitworth is also the captain of the Boy’s Varsity Soccer team at Glendora High School.

Aside from his many community service accolades and accomplishments, Whitworth is also a member of the National Honor Society.
