Fighting Hunger and Filling Empty Bowls

The annual Empty Bowls fundraiser fights worldwide hunger one bowl at a time.

This weekend,and local community groups are taking on world hunger with soup and some exercise.

The 9th annual is coming back to First Christian Church in Glendora 5 p.m. Friday.

At this year’s event, the public is invited to select a handmade bowl by local potters and Citrus College ceramics students, and enjoy a simple meal of soup from local restaurants.

Bowls are $15 each.

Music entertainment will be provided by bluegrass artist Steve Wilke.

Proceeds from the event will be given to , St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the , to offer immediate food assistance.

The following Sunday at 2 p.m., residents are invited to take part in the Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty (CROP) Walk starting at First Christian Church. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m., with the race starting at 2 p.m.

Proceeds from the CROP Walk will go to the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless, St. Vincent de Paul, Shepherd's Pantry, and ACTION Food Pantry in West Covina.

“This weekend provides folks an opportunity to meet the needs who unfortunately at times have empty bowls due to the economic challenges in their lives,” said Karen Davis, First Christian Church pastor and Glendora City Council member.
