Tampa Bay Rays Draft Glendora High's John Alexander

The Tartans standout outfielder was drafted in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Like any other high school graduate, is faced with the big decision – college or work?

His decision is made more difficult because he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the eighth round of Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. The lefthanded outfielder was the 270th selection overall.

In the next few days, the 6-foot-6 outfielder, will decide if he wants to play for UC Irvine or start his minor league career with an eye toward the majors.

Last season, Alexander hit .385 with 31 RBIs and scored 27 runs in the regular season. The Tartans won the Baseline League again, but were upset by Damien in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

As a junior, Alexander was instrumental in helping the Tartans capture the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title, hitting .395 with 27 RBIs and five home runs for Glendora (27-2-1).
