Snapshot: Charter Oak Unified Breaks Ground on Aquatics Center
Parents, members of the community and Charter Oak Unified staff and administrators gathered Jan. 17 to celebrate a ground breaking at the site of the future Aquatics Center at Charter Oak High School.
The $5.2 million project, granted to Sandalwood Construction, began construction in December 2013. The new aquatics center will be completely new construction, not a renovation and will feature a larger pool at 31 by 25 meters an improvement over the current pool.
For the past two years, a group of parents were very vocal in the push for pool renovations. The group began getting more parents involved and began searching for ways to fund a new pool.
"The subject of the Bond Measure CO was contentious, some parents, including myself, were not in favor of it," said parent Ann Marin. "But it turned out a bond was the only way to get the funds to construct the pool."
"The new Aquatics Center will infuse our current program a with vision for the future. Our kids & future [Charter Oak] kids already have a strong foundation they can build on and other programs will now give us the respect we deserve," said Charter Oak parent Sandra Oddo.
