LPGA Golfer, Azusa Native Visits Sandburg Students
Back from her Malaysia and South Korea tours, Lizette Salas visited students at Sandburg Middle School, Oct 25.
Salas visited the AVID class where her niece and nephew attend. Salas spoke about her past accomplishments and what it took to succeed in high school, college and in the LPGA, officials said in a statement.
Salas, an Azusa native, was introduced to golf by her father, a former mechanic at the Azusa Greens Golf Course, when she was just 7 years old.
Salas attended the University of Southern California, the first in her family to seek a college degree.
Salas played golf for USC and eventually earned her Sociology degree in 2011. She earned the Pac-10 Player of the Year award in 2009 and 2011 and was a four-time All-American.
"Lizette’s hard work has paid off and she is a role model for all students, families and communities," officials said.
