GUSD Warns Parents of Recent Azusa Kidnapping Attempts

Three men were also arrested yesterday in connection with the Thursday incident in Azusa, but have been released. Authorities have released sketches of the suspect.

Officials at sent a message to parents Friday, warning them to be on the lookout for the man accused of attempting to kidnap a teen girl near Azusa.

The message from the district, though, said that the kidnapping attempt happened on Alosta Near Barranca avenues:

We were notified by Glendora PD of an attempted kidnapping on Alosta near Barranca of a young girl. The car is described as a white Nissan, possibly Frontier extra cab with a tool box in the bed. The suspect is a male Hispanic, 20 to 30 years of age with short hair. It is believed this is the same individual who has made recent attempts in San Dimas and Azusa. Please remind your children to walk in groups to and from school and not to approach any vehicles.

On Thursday, Aug. 16, around 1 p.m. the attempted kidnapping happened on Orangecrest Avenue near Citrus Edge Street in an unincorporated area of Azusa. A man in a white truck drove up alongside and attempted to pull a 14-year-old girl into his vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The girl was able to run away from the man.

The first reported kidnapping attempt occurred Saturday, July 28 around 2:20 p.m., when a 16-year-old girl was walking with friends near Orkney and Fenimore streets in unincorporated Azusa when a similar suspect also tried to pull her in to his truck, authorities said.

The girl in the July 28 incident punched her would-be captor and fled.

Three men were arrested around 4 p.m. Friday, Aug 17, KLTA Channel 5 reported.

However, officials said the men were not connected to the kidnapping attempt.

"They've all been released," said Lieutenant Diana Gealta of the San Dimas Sheriff's Station. "We're still looking for the suspect."

The man implicated in both incidents was described as a Male Hispanic in his mid-20s to mid-30s. He should be sporting short, dark hair now and was previously seen wearing a baseball hat with the green bill pointed upwards and he wore sunglasses.

The suspect vehicle is a small, white 2-door pickup truck, possibly a Nissan Frontier, which may have housed a black toolbox in the back.

If you have any information related to these cases, contact Detectives Tim Ruggiero or Alan Wetters at (909) 450-2700 from the San Dimas Sheriff's Station.
