Two incumbents face two challengers for the Nov. 5 election.

Four candidates are making a run for the three open seats on the Glendora Unified School Board for the Nov. 5 election.

After the Aug. 9 deadline to file candidacy papers, incumbents Michael Cautreau and Chuck Gomer will face newcomers Cory Ellenson and Michael Christensen for a four-year term on the board.

Gomer, vice chairman for faculty affairs in the Department of Pediatrics and Professor of Pediatrics and Radiation Oncology at the University of Southern California, has served on the GUSD board since 1997. He and Gautreau, principal of Covina High School who has served on the GUSD board since 2005, will face Ellenson, a tax attorney, and Christensen, a businessman.

Ellenson, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2011 school board election, said in a statement, “As a third-generation Glendoran and GHS graduate, I am passionate about preparing EVERY student, whether college-bound or not, from kindergarten through 12th grade, for success in a rapidly changing, highly competitive, global economy.”

Christenson wrote on his Facebook page, “It is my goal to work with our school board to support the direction of the Glendora Unified School District as we strive to provide a superior education to our children during these trying economical times.”
