Former Glendora Unified School District Employee Pleads Not Guilty to Embezzlement Charges

Cynthia Schlig, 57, entered the not guilty plea in Superior Court Thursday.

A former Glendora Unified School District employee pled not guilty to embezzling $350,000 of district money Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Cynthia Schlig, 57, of Upland, entered a not guilty plea in Superior Court. She is charged with five felony counts including forgery, embezzlement and theft of public funds.

Lt. Brian Summer said Schlig, a 57-year-old 35-year former employee of the Glendora Unified School District’s finance department, was arrested Tuesday after a 19-month investigation. He said the investigation began after school district officials notified police of the missing funds in January 2012.

Glendora Unified Superintendent Robert Voors said Schlig, who allegedly committed the crimes over a five year period, resigned from her position as accounting specialist in the finance department shortly after being confronted with the discovery.

Schlig will be back in court Sept. 26 for a preliminary hearing setting. She is currently being held in custody in lieu of $140,000 bail.
