Citrus College to Host Youth Summer Camp

Summer activities will be available for children ages 6 to 12 years old.

With summer just around the corner, is offering one way for local youth to spend their vacation.

Boys and girls ages 6 to 12 can participate in a range of activities including capture the flag, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, football and basketball. They will also enjoy some summertime movies and experience exciting day camp sessions hosted by current and former Citrus College coaches and athletes.

The four-day sessions will take place Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to  6 p.m. Campers may be dropped off at 7:30 a.m.

Session 1 will be held June 18-21; session 2, June 25-28; session 3, July 2-July 5; session 4, July 9-12; session 5, July 16-19; session 6, July 23-26; and the final session will be July 20-August 2.

“The purpose of the camp is to get kids active during the summer,” said Peter Lofthouse, Citrus College director of football operations and receivers. “Hopefully the camp will pique their interest about sports. If the campers are active and having fun, maybe they will find a sport they really like and would like to pursue.”

According to Lofthouse, the participating youth are taught by experienced coaches and counselors comprised of student athletes, who are currently active in Citrus College sports. “It’s a total group effort,” he said. He added that the goal is always to have campers interested in physical activity while emphasizing teamwork and hard work.

The cost of each session is $125 per child, or parents can choose to pay $600 for all seven sessions. All camp sessions take place at the Citrus College Field House. Space is limited, so interested parties are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
