Charter Oak Woman’s Club Donates $10,000 to District

The club donates $10,000 for school supplies to students of the Charter Oak Unified School District.

The Charter Oak Unified School District received a $10,000 check from the Charter Oak Woman’s Club.

During the district school board meting, members of the Charter Oak Woman’s Club presented a mock check to represent the $10,000.00 worth of school supplies they are donating to the Charter Oak School District. Club members, Nellie Heinrich, Dorothy Smith, Geri Schlieder, Fran Fortugno and Jane Bock were all on hand to make the presentation.

The club endowment was given in 2005 by Charter Member and Financial Benefactress, Esther Hurlburt. Hurlburt was a longtime member of the Charter Oak Woman’s Club and also worked in the Charter Oak School District as a school secretary.

Hurlburt had no children of her own and considered all of the students in Charter Oak to be her own. In 2005, Hurlburt left the Charter Oak Woman’s Club an endowment to be given out to the students of Charter Oak as they saw fit.

In a press statement, the Woman’s Club said it is very proud to be able to help the students of Charter Oak  in these difficult financial times.
