Charter Oak Offering Free Dental Services For Students

The free services will be made available to students without dental insurance.

The Charter Oak Unified School District will offer a day of free dental services for students without access to dental care.

The services will be offered Saturday, Feb. 23 starting at 8:20 a.m. at Cedargrove Elementary School, 1209 N. Glendora Ave., Covina.

According to district nurse Christin Frazier, the district was chosen to receive this free service from the San Gabriel Valley Dental Society due to the high volume of students without access to regular dental service.

"A lot of our parents, even if they are employed, don't have access to dental care for their children every six months," said Frazier. She said Kindergarten oral screenings indicated that students had a variety of dental issues such as cavities, and were missing school because of these dental problems.

The services will be offered to qualified students who make appointments. Up to 120 students can be seen Saturday. School district officials say spots are filling up quickly as over 100 children in the district have signed up for the services.
