Charter Oak High School Student Dies Following Accident

An 11th-grade male student from Charter Oak High School in Covina died Tuesday after an accident on Monday, school officials said.

Few details about the accident were available Tuesday, but the student was injured Monday afternoon and his injuries were serious enough to warrant an airlift from Badillo Elementary School in Covina, said Mike Hendricks, superintendent of Charter Oak Unified School District.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a child suffering a head injury near Mesarica Road and East Puente Street a little after 3:30 p.m. Monday in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Covina. The child was flown out from nearby Badillo Elementary, according to Sheriff's radio traffic.

Authorities at the San Dimas Sheriff's Station were unable to provide any details on the accident.

The name of the student was not officially released, but teens took to social media to memorialize Charter Oak High School student Keith Guerrero.

User _chadmyster posted on Twitter: "RIP to Keith Guerrero - Hill Bomber who attended Charter Oak, who passed away doing what he loved, rest in peace !"

User Melanie Cuevo tweeted, "I can't explain how much Im gonna miss you Keith. It'll never be the same without you. RIP Keith Alexander Guerrero."

Family and friends have established a donation site to help pay for funeral costs.
