War Memorial Headed for June Completion

Bricks with personalized messages are being sold for $200 each.

Ground has been broken for Glendora’s long-awaited war memorial project outside of city hall.

The project has been four years in the making and with roughly $114,000 in cash donations and thousands more dollars in in-kind donations raised, the memorial honoring fallen soldiers from the Glendora community is headed for a June completion date.

But the memorial’s official grand opening is dependent on the completion of volunteer work and other in-kind donations, said Sonja Jones, executive assistant of the City Manager's Office of Glendora.

Crews have begun digging trenches and establishing electrical foundations. If work goes according to planned, the city and the War Memorial Committee will plan a community grand opening this summer.

The War Memorial Committee is selling personalized bricks for $200 a piece, which will be added to the finished monument.

Bricks can include messages to fallen soldiers, messages of support to America’s troops, or simply names of people or businesses who support the war memorial, said Jones.

So far, about 130 bricks have been sold.
