Unemployment Rate Drops Before Holidays

California's unemployment rate drops to 11.3 percent in November.

Unemployment in California fell to 11.3 percent in November, thanks to an increase of 6,600 nonfarm payroll jobs, according to data released by the California Employment Development Department.

In two separate surveys, studies found that 2011 saw an increase of 211,4000 jobs since the year began.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County dropped to 11.9 percent in November, down from a revised 12.2 percent in October.

In LA County, which has a labor force of about 4.86 million, 581,000 people were unemployed in November.

Glendora’s unemployment rate also dropped slightly from 6.2 percent in October to 6 percent in November.

The unemployment rate across the nation was 8.6 percent.

The state’s unemployment rate fell slightly by .4 percent in November. During the same time last year, the state’s unemployment rate was 12.5 percent.

According to the EDD Web site, the unemployment rate is taken from a federal survey of 5,500 California homes.
