County Unemployment Rate Down in December

By year's end, Los Angeles County continued to see a downward trend in the unemployment rate.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County decreased in December to 11.8 percent from a revised 11.9 percent in November, according to figures released today by the state.

The unemployment rate in December 2010 was 13 percent. Between November and December, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County expanded by about 3,600 jobs to 3.826 million, the largest number since the end of the recession, the Employment Development Department reported.

Glendora's unemployment rate was 6.1 percent for Decemeber 2011.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.1 percent, a drop from 11.3 percent in November. It was 12.5 percent in December 2010.

Despite the drop, California's unemployment figures remain among the highest in the nation.

The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.5 percent in December, down from 9.4 percent in the same month last year.
