Pomona Courthouse Targeted for Cuts

Due to budget constraints, the location will no longer hear most cases, and be limited to administrative matters such as ticket payments.

Budget cuts will end cases being heard in 10 Los Angeles County courthouses, including those in Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles, Malibu, Huntington Park, Whittier, Pomona and San Pedro, it was reported Thursday.

The courthouses will continue to handle some administrative matters like ticket payments, the Los Angeles Times reported.

An unspecified number of layoffs will occur, according to The Times.

The cuts will be carried out over the next six months, The Times reported.

"It's devastating to the court system and it's going to be a sea change in how we do our business," Lee Smalley Edmon, presiding judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, told The Times.

"Unfortunately, there are going to be longer lines in each of our courthouses and great delays throughout the system."

The closures come on the heels of 431 court officials losing their jobs in June.
