State of the Union: Who Would You Vote For?

The road to Election 2012 is heating up as the Republicans square off and Obama makes his reelection pitch.

As the four remaining Republicans went head-to-head in a debate Monday, Barack Obama made his plea to the country in his State of the Union Address Tuesday evening.

The tone was optimistic and Obama spotlighted signs he said pointed to the country’s recovery from a recession that has crippled state and local economies.

“Anyone who says that America is in decline or that our influence has waned doesn't know what they're talking about,” he said during his one-hour and-five-minute speech.

Obama also spoke about energy policy, taxes on the wealthy as economic fairness, and immigration reform.

But as Obama spoke about “rebuilding the nation,” Republican candidates traded verbal jabs Monday night in a campaign debate in Tampa, Fla. Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich put on a show during the debate, with Gingrich calling Romney’s ideas on immigration self-deportation an "Obama-level fantasy," and Romney accusing Gingrich of pandering to the Hispanic audience while supporting self-deportation in the past.

Last weekend, Gingrich secured a South Carolina primary win.
