Orswell Calls Chu Out For Debate No-Shows

Jack Orswell released an open letter challenging Rep. Judy Chu, D-El Monte, to a debate.

The race for the newly-created 27th Congressional District, which encompasses Arcadia and 15 other Foothill cities from Pasadena to Upland, has officially heated up.

, D-El Monte, has repeatedly failed to show up at campaign events and dodged several debate invitations, sending representatives in her stead.

This week, Orswell's campaign sent this open letter challenging Chu to face off with him in a debate:

"Last week, for the seventh time during the campaign, Rep. Judy Chu refused a request from her constituents to debate the issues so that they can make an informed vote on November 6th...

Our nation is at an important crossroads: never before have we faced such crushing levels of national debt and high-unemployment, fueled by self-serving career politicians, unions and special-interest groups. Accordingly, it is crucial that voters have all the information and facts that they need to cast an informed vote. Debates and open discussions are essential mechanisms to ensure that the electorate can vote and ensure that our way of life is preserved."

For her part, Chu's campaign said the Congresswoman has "a very active" campaign.

"She has had 'meet-and-greets' throughout the cities of the district, such as Arcadia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Claremont, and Monrovia," Chu spokeswoman Amelia Wang said via e-mail. "She has attended endorsement meetings, and received the endorsements of such groups as the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association, the Sierra Club, the National Organization for Women, the California Teachers Association and the Armenian National Committee."

"Though she had conflicts in her schedule during certain debates, at which time she was scheduled to be in Washington DC, she sent surrogates to represent her views. Congressmember Judy Chu is truly looking forward to representing the 27th Congressional District."

You are so right Danlp oh how I wish they would clean that area up. I might be wrong but it appearsRead More to be getting worse. They not only take up all the grass area but are now starting to sit out in front of Wells Fargo. Come on Glendora.....

That's what I've been wondering????? Typical Glendora withholding information. Sounded like a methRead More lab blowing up. I heard it was on vista Bonita and some type of " chemical fire".

I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.

I agree with you Danlp, it is a mess on Grand Ave. from Bennett to Sierra Madre. The road had soRead More many pot holes its hard to travel and its a main street wich is just making it worse. Wish they would do something about it Grand Ave.We pay taxes , and my car would appreciate it alot save on matience on my tires and balance.

Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
