Supervisor Looks to Get Veterans Parking Privileges

Supervisor Michael Antonovich is encouraging cities throughout the county to opt into the provisions of legislation that exempts military veterans from paying for metered parking.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich is encouraging cities throughout the county to opt into the provisions of legislation that exempts military veterans with specialized license plates from paying for metered parking.

Antonovich serves the city of Glendora.

The issue has been placed on this week’s County Supervisor’s board meeting agenda, scheduled for Nov. 7. The usual Tuesday meeting will be held Wednesday due to Tuesday's elections, county officials said.

The legislation, known as AB 190, exempts those with specialized license plates to park at metered parking without having to feed the meters, officials said. The plates recognized are:

  • Pearl Harbor Survivor
  • Legion of Valor
  • Former American Prisoner of War (POW)
  • Congressional Medal of Honor
  • Purple Heart

“Each year thousands of men and women join our nation’s military to serve their country and protect our freedom” according to a motion made by Antonovich. “The contributions and sacrifices of these brave soldiers are vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by Americans and people around the world. Sadly, some of our brave soldiers come home with life altering injuries and others pay the ultimate price, giving their lives in defense of freedom.”

Assemblywoman Karen Bass authored the bill in 2008.

Don't want to sound like a biter Veteran but at least this gentlemen is trying to help us Vets with something. Thank you Mr Antonovich for trying but I'm sure it will get knocked down.
We have a serious issue with homeless vets and the veteran unemployment rate is staggering compared to the regular one. Wy not continue to focus on helping military folks translate their military training into a civilian credentials. I saw an episode of John Stewart were he did a piece on this and it was beautiful. I am grateful to the industry that gave me a opportunity.

This is an admirable idea but it's a small gesture towards showing gratitude towards Vets. I'd like to see more and bigger ones offered in the future. As Jay mentioned, the homeless and jobless Vet issues deserve more attention and action! (I'm not a Vet)

You are so right Danlp oh how I wish they would clean that area up. I might be wrong but it appearsRead More to be getting worse. They not only take up all the grass area but are now starting to sit out in front of Wells Fargo. Come on Glendora.....

That's what I've been wondering????? Typical Glendora withholding information. Sounded like a methRead More lab blowing up. I heard it was on vista Bonita and some type of " chemical fire".

I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.

I agree with you Danlp, it is a mess on Grand Ave. from Bennett to Sierra Madre. The road had soRead More many pot holes its hard to travel and its a main street wich is just making it worse. Wish they would do something about it Grand Ave.We pay taxes , and my car would appreciate it alot save on matience on my tires and balance.

Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
