'Gordo' Got His Surgery and Is 'Doing Very Well'

Authorities asked for help for the surgery of four-month pit bull mix puppy, who was brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter after being rescued from an abusive owner.

Gordo, the four-month pit bull mix puppy, who was brought to the after being rescued from an abusive owner, is fully recovering informed authorities with the Los Angeles Animal Care and Control (DACC). 

"Animal Care Foundation (ACF) is happy to report that Gordo is doing very well. Thanks to the public’s generosity, Gordo was able to have surgery on Monday, April 30, 2012," reads a statement. 

"Although the surgery was more complex than initially anticipated, he is otherwise healthy and doing well."

According to Evelina Villa, spokesperson of DACC, Gordo’s care takers brought him to the animal care center after his previous owner allegedly threw him against a wall and repeatedly kicked him, while under the influence of drugs.

Veterinary staff of the DACC said Gordo suffered a fractured lateral condyle on his right elbow and will need to undergo surgery to repair it. This case remains under investigation, authorities said.

Once the vet releases Gordo, he will be placed into foster care to further recover. Once he recovers and begins his follow up rehabilitation treatments, he will be available for adoption.

The DACC said they have a lengthy list of potential adopters and they will will ensure Gordo is adopted into a home that best suits his needs.
