Glendora Police Honored For Traffic Safety Efforts

Police department is the managing agency for the county's Avoid the 100 DUI Taskforce Grant.

The Glendora Police Department received an award, April 15, for its work in maintaining public safety.

The Public Service Award, given by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, was presented to Glendora PD for managing the largest California Avoid DUI grant in California, a combination of 100 law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County, authorities said in a press release.

The award was presented to members of Glendora Police at the annual Lifesavers Conference in Denver, Colo.

For the last seven years, the Glendora Police Department has overseen the Avoid the 100 DUI Coalition. The combined efforts of the Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign have reportedly reduced alcohol-related fatalities by 39 percent since 2005, authorities said.

“This award is a great honor and recognition for all the efforts of the Glendora Police Department and California Avoid Taskforce Coalitions," said Rob Castro, Glendora police chief, in a press release. "This award recognizes all the dedication and sacrifices by the hundreds of officers and support personnel who work tirelessly on weekends and holidays to improve traffic safety for all California motorists."
