Fischer Leaving Glendora, Appointed to City Manager Position in Maricopa

Brenda Fischer, Glendora deputy city manager, is set to begin her new position as city manager for Maricopa, Ariz. May 2.

Though her time with Glendora has been brief, deputy city manager Brenda Fischer is leaving Glendora for a new position as city manager for the city of Maricopa in Arizona.

During a special meeting Thursday, the Maricopa City Council approved the appointment of Fischer as their new city manager. Fischer was offered a three-year contract with the city of Maricopa.

According to a Maricopa press release, Fischer will begin her term with the city May 2. Her salary in her first position as city manager will begin at $144,724. Fischer’s base salary for her term as deputy city manager of Glendora is $141,000 according to the state controller’s office.

“The challenges for the city of Maricopa regarding growth and development is very similar to the city of Henderson, Nevada where I had worked previously,” said Fischer. “It’s very bittersweet from the Glendora standpoint. I didn’t expect to leave so soon. But I am very thrilled for this opportunity.”

Fischer joined the Glendora city staff in February 2010. Since then, Fischer has been involved in various projects, including the city’s Strategic Plan and improving Web communication. Fischer’s last day with Glendora is April 29.

“I am very excited for the city,” said Maricopa Mayor Anthony Smith said in a statement. “Brenda Fischer brings to us professionalism, experience and a tremendous amount of energy that I believe will take the city to the next level of growth. She is a very good fit for Maricopa.”
