Fee Increases, Ulta Topics at School Board, Planning Commission Meetings

A round up for Tuesday night's public meetings.

The Glendora Unified School District School Board and the Glendora Planning Commission meet Tuesday night to discuss budgets, fee increases, special education and new development.

The school board meets 7 p.m. at the district office, 500 N. Loraine Ave., to discuss the following items:

  • The school board will make a motion to formally support temporary tax increases to help fund public school education. State budget woes has cut $7.5 million from the district’s own budget within the last three years. Without the extension, funding for schools could fall by $2 billion, according to the school board staff report.
  • The school board will also vote on a fee hike for its Extended Day Care camps from $24 to $26 per day. The fee increases are proposed to help cover the rising costs to operate the day care program. The district operates day care camps during the fall, winter, spring and summer breaks.
  • To cover the costs of special education services not available from current district employees, the district has set aside funds to contract these services. According to the staff report, $3.9 million of the general fund has been set aside for 2010-2011 school year.

The Planning Commission meets 7 p.m. at City Hall, 116 E. Foothill Blvd., to discuss new development planned in the Glendora Marketplace.

Ulta Beauty, the nationwide chain of cosmetics, skincare, fragrance and hair care, is moving closer to its new home next to Kohl’s in the Glendora Marketplace on Lone Hill Avenue this fall. The city council’s resolution of approval of the parcel has been placed on the planning commission’s consent calendar.

Will Tipton of Pacific Development Group II said should approval and construction run as scheduled, the 10,000-sq-ft property could open by November.
