Feds Give Gold Line $6M Grant

The grant from the Federal Transit Administration will allow for better bus and pedestrian interfaces along the Gold Line Foothill Extension.

A $6 million grant from the federal government will allow for improved bus and pedestrian access to the coming light rail extension from Pasadena to the Azusa/Glendora border, according to a Gold Line official.

The Federal Transit Administration grant is in addition to $3 million the Gold Line Construction Authority already received to study pedestrian, bike and bus routes around the future stations along the extension. The new money will be used to build improvements based on that study, GLCA CEO Habib Balian said in an email.

"The remaining funds will now be made available for design and construction of real improvements on nearby streets and other areas around the stations to enhance intermodal connections for future riders," Balian wrote. "These types of enhancements are aimed at improving the overall transit experience in order to make transit riders feel comfortable and safe as they access stations on foot, bus or bicycle."
