Covered California Enrollment in L.A. County Is Better Than Expected

Los Angeles County represents about 27 percent of the statewide enrollment, which stood at 880,082 consumers as of Feb. 28. As of March 14, that figure rose to more than a million Californians.

Covered California enrollments are taking place at a rate 36 percent better than first hoped for in Los Angeles County, state officials announced today.

More than 241,000 Los Angeles County residents signed up for health insurance through Covered California over a five-month period ending last month, according to the agency and the state Department of Health Care Services.

That's 36 percent more people than originally estimated for the six-month enrollment period that concludes at the end of this month, according to the state.

Another 366,353 L.A. County residents were determined likely to be eligible for Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid alternative program which also provides medical insurance.
