Council Chooses New Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem

City leadership reorganizes during Tuesday's city council meeting.

After one year as mayor, Doug Tessitor handed over the gavel to fellow councilmember and former Mayor Pro Tem Gene Murabito during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Councilmember Joe Santoro was selected as the new Mayor Pro Tem. Santoro was elected to the council in 2011.

The city council members each year reorganize the mayor and mayor pro tem positions based on council majority vote. Although the council may choose to keep the current mayor and mayor pro tem positions as they stand, the council decided to go with new leadership.

Murabito has served on the city council since his election in 2009. He has lived  in Glendora for 56 years and also served on the planning commission for seven years.

“I know there will be challenges ahead, especially as we discuss the city budget,” said Murabito. “We may not always agree, but I know this council will work through these challenges.”
