Council Approves Extension For Townhomes

The City Council cleared Williams Homes for a time extension on a 17-unit project on Foothill Boulevard and Cataract Avenue.

Although the July 10 deadline had passed, the Glendora City Council unanimously approved a time extension for Williams Homes to have a 17-unit townhome project shovel-ready by 2013 during Tuesday’s meeting.

Planning Manager Dianne Walter said there were no changes to the project other than to extend the expiration date.

“Staff feels the applicant has made every effort to meet the deadline of July 10, 2011, but due to the fact that they have only had the project since January 2011, they simply ran out of time,” said Walter.

The 17-unit project on the northwest corner of Foothill Boulevard and Cataract Avenue was approved by the Glendora City Council on July 10, 2007. But as a result of the economic downturn, the project was sold to a new developer, Williams Homes.

Concerns were raised during a previous Planning Commission meeting regarding a new Environmental Impact Review, with one public commenter suggesting that since new nearby developments have been approved since 2007 -- including a 55-unit project on Cataract Avenue in San Dimas –  a new study was warranted.

However, city officials determined a new EIR was not needed since the original project had not changed.
