City Answers Frequently Asked Questions After Wind Storm

A week after that hit most of the San Gabriel Valley with massive 70-mph winds, Glendora City Hall is still receiving floods of calls from concerned residents.

To help answer the most frequently asked questions, the city is offering information on property damage, clean up and power outages.

Fallen Trees or Trees in Danger of Falling

If a tree has fallen or is looks as though it is in immediate danger of falling, residents should call the Community Services Department at 626-914-8228. They will send a representative to investigate. If the tree is a city tree, the city will make arrangements to address the problem. If it is a tree on private property, the property owner must make arrangements with a contractor. According to the Web site, general estimates for tree trimming can run anywhere from $100 - $400, depending on size. To remove a tree, the cost can run anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the size and whether it includes stump grinding and disposal.

Disposal of Big Branches and Other Green Debris

Green debris or branches can be placed with the regular trash as Athens Services has agreed to offer extra pickup vehicles to collect the extra trash. Athens can be contacted at 626-336-6100. For residents with disabilities or special needs, Public Works may be available for assistance. Public Works can be reached at 626-914-8246.

Repairing Property Damage

Minor repairs do not need a city permit. However, for help determining minor repairs or work in need of permits, residents may call the Building & Safety Division at 626-914-8222.

Door-to-Door Solicitors

The city advises residents to be wary of contractors soliciting door-to-door. The solicitors may be con artists without the proper licenses to do the work. Residents are encouraged to call Building & Safety Division at 626-914-8222 or the Glendora Police Department at (626) 914-8250 with any information of suspicious activity.
