Chu: Lax Gun Laws to Blame for the Carnage

On the House floor, days after the Sandy Hook Elementary slaughter, Rep. Judy Chu (D-El Monte) urged her colleagues to tighten gun laws.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, Rep. Judy Chu (D-El Monte) explained that she's pushing for tighter gun control before "another school, mall or movie theater is turned into a crime scene.''

Chu, who represents California's 27th Congressional District, which includes South Pasadena, Altadena, Pasadena, Glendora, and parts of Monrovia, addressed her colleagues in the House of Representatives where she called for a ban on assault weapons. She further would like to ban extended ammunition clips, and suggested a thorough background check for anyone who wants to own a gun.

Last Friday's slaughter of 20 children and six school officials "happened because we turned a blind eye to the carnage our lax gun laws bring us. It's time change those laws'' and reclaim our society,'' she said.

Chu had said she'd use her position on the House Judiciary Committee to push for tighter gun control laws.

Why doesn't anyone ask her how stricter gun laws would have prevented this tragedy. Does she advocate disarming the honest citizens while the criminals and terrorists keep their guns? Someone please ask her and other anti-gun nuts how their plans will positively affect crime.

Oh thank god its the guns to blame and not the failing mental health system in the United States. Not to mention there is no such this as an "extended ammunition clip." I'm all for smarter gun control, even as a firearm owner. But please, PLEASE, actually have people with intelligence write these laws. Yes you should have a background check to buy a firearm. Yes this should include mental health records. No, it shouldn't take 10 days to perform. Registering firearms should be required. Much like registering a car but no fee. Attach the firearms to the SS#. Restrict firearm sales for people who are convicted in misdemeanor gang activities, such as tagging. Same applies for known gang members. Get rid of the Bullet-Button law. It does nothing at all. Get rid of the Roberti-Roos Act and make a straight forward This is legal this isn't law. Make sawn-off shotguns illegal. Remove the restriction on ammo. The way its written makes no sense in practice.

It's easy to blame gunsif you are a Socialist. It's harder to blame the real cause of mental health and the courts who refuse to act on these things.
