Woman Scammed Out of $1,500 in Walmart Parking Lot

Two scam artists trick a woman into buying fake gold, take off with her cash and other valuable items.

A woman was scammed out of $1,500 cash and some valuable items at Walmart on Thursday as two scam artists tricked her into buying fake gold.

The incident occurred around noon in one of the parking lots at Walmart, 1950 E. Auto Centre Drive, according to Lt. Lamborghini of Glendora Police. The crime was not reported until 6:15 that evening.

The woman was approached by a male subject who claimed to have gold items, but didn't know how much they were worth. A second suspect arrived, claiming not to know the first, and offered to get the gold appraised, Lamborghini said.

Some time later, the second suspect returned and claimed the gold appraised at $25,000.

"The first suspect offers to give the gold to the victim if she would help him out at a jeweler," Lamborghini said.

The man wanted some collateral, so the victim gave him $1,500 in cash and some other valuable items.

"As it turns out the stuff she was holding was worthless and the suspects ended up with the $1,500 cash and some other valuable items that the lady gave to them," Lamborghini said.

Both suspects are male Hispanics, one was about 60 years old, while the other was about 45.

Anyone with information is asked to call Glendora Police at (626) 914-8250.
